Vacation Memories

I don’t know a single person who doesn’t have a crazy “family vacation” story to tell. Our next show, Leaving Iowa, (for example) is chock full of them. hen we talked to our cast, crew and staff–they were chock full of them as well. And some of them were just too good not to share!

Froggie Motel

On one of our journeys from Southern CA to Spokane, WA, we had traveled more than our 500 miles that day. We were hot, tired and ready for a hotel that would accommodate 7 people and a dog. My Dad finally found a Ranch style motel that not only had vacancies but a pool! We opened the motel room door and found that there were ants crawling all over the walls. Our dog proceeded to lift his leg on the bed post and peed. My Mom told my Dad to get us in our swimsuits and take us to the pool while she cleaned up the dog mess and called for the manager to spray the room. We walked over to the pool and found it full of frogs, some dead and some alive struggling to get out! My Dad nearly gaged seeing this sight. All of us kids decided we were going to save the struggling frogs. However, every frog we were able to scoop out went right back into the water. My Dad, gritting his teeth, took us back to the room, dreading to tell my Mom what we had found at the pool. While the room was being fumigated, we spent the rest of the evening trying to catch frogs on the grass near the parking lot. What my parents thought was a disastrous stay, turned out to be the best playground for us at the ”The Froggie Motel”.
