SENIOR MATINEES

Taproot Theatre Company’s Senior Matinee program provides seniors with an affordable way to participate in live theatre. Seniors aged 62 and older can enjoy a convenient daytime performance at our theatre. We offer Sennheiser listening devices, a Hearing Loop in the Jewell Mainstage Theatre, wheelchair and walker accessible seating.

Our performances make a great outing for Retirement Communities, Senior Centers, book clubs, church groups and more. For more information or to book your tickets, please contact Group Sales at groups@taproottheatre.org 206.781.9708.

Welcome to Intergenerational Matinees at Taproot Theatre! Our intergenerational program enhances student education, providing theatre as a tool and springboard for learning, growth and communication. Additionally, these matinees are intended to bridge a gap between student and senior groups creating a learning environment where different ages can interact and discuss the play.

The Brewsters are an eccentric bunch: Mortimer’s a theatre critic, his brother thinks he’s Teddy Roosevelt and Aunts Abby and Martha are the most gracious killers. When Mortimer casually proposes to the pastor’s daughter he unwittingly opens the lid on buried family secrets. As strangers and cops keep calling, the Brewsters will go to hilarious lengths to protect the skeletons in the cellar.

In the time of C.S. Lewis and Dietrich Bonhoeffer, there was also Sophie Scholl: a 21-year-old German theology student who opposed Hitler and the Nazi regime. After being arrested for denouncing Hitler, Sophie must choose to compromise her beliefs or make the ultimate sacrifice. In an age with much civil unrest and uncertainty, Sophie’s story shows us that one voice can inspire many.

Kim’s Convenience | Jewell Mainstage Theatre

Enter Kim’s Convenience store and meet the Kims, a loving, if imperfect, Korean family making their way in Toronto. As they face an uncertain future Appa (dad), Umma (mom), their unmarried daughter Janet and disappointing son Jung learn to see each other in a new light. This hilarious and heartwarming story reminds us that family isn’t always convenient, but it might be the best deal out there.
