New Building Progress
The week of May 14th was packed with some critical, key steps to get the new building underway.
First, on Monday we returned to the City’s Northwest Design Review Board, responding to their requests for more information and illustrations of the building. This board provides oversight into how new buildings will fit into their communities and the five architects on the board can assert considerable influence on the overall design, colors, lighting, signage and use of the land. We’re thrilled to say that our design and project were unanimously approved.
Secondly, it was a big week for funding and financing the new building. On Thursday we signed a letter agreeing to the terms of a construction loan from AmericanWest Bank. On Thursday we signed the contract for a $570,000 grant from the State of Washington’s Building for the Arts program. And on Friday, we received $500,000 of a $1,500,000, three-year pledge toward the Deep Roots Campaign (to be split between the general fund and capital campaign). We’re very, very thankful!
This week (May 21st) we’re waiting for further news on the finalizing of our Master Use Permit. Scott’s expecting to make at least two trips to deliver some new plans and photos that the Design Review Board requested for the permanent file. A-n-y-t-h-i-n-g it takes to keep the permit process moving!
