Weekly Classes for Youth and Teens

Theatrical Players Showcase

4th-6th grade
Theatre is all about telling a great story. The stronger an ensemble and the more confident the actors, the better the story they can tell! As students work together to put on a one act play in just nine weeks, they’ll be challenged to make bold and detailed character decisions and fully immerse themselves in the world of the play. You won’t want to miss the story they create and perform in the final performance!

Location: Phinney Ridge Lutheran Church, N 75th St and Greenwood Ave N

Rehearsal Dates: Mondays, February 4-April 1  |  Time: 6-8:30 pm
Dress Rehearsal: Sunday, April 7, 6-8 pm @ Taproot Theatre
Performance: Monday, April 8, 5:30-7:30 pm @ Taproot Theatre

Cost: $245  |  10 sessions (no class February 18)


Teen Ensemble Showcase

7th-12th grade
In this nine week class students will learn what it takes to build an ensemble, craft a show, and put on a showcase performance for friends and family, all under the direction of Taproot Theatre’s professional teachers and actors. Experience isn’t required, but students will need to be at all rehearsals and have their lines memorized by the third week.  Students will be amazed at what they’ve accomplished when it all comes together in the final performance.

Midwinter Break Camps

Theatrical Players and Teen Ensemble Midwinter Break Camp                 

4th-12th grade
When school is out for spring break, the fun begins at Taproot Theatre! Prepare to be amazed as your student is provided a variety of theatre and stage opportunities from which to sample: Stage combat, comedy, drama, Shakespeare, musical theatre and more. During this high energy, fast paced week you’ll be delighted to see your student’s confidence grow, culminating in their dazzling end of week performance.

Location: Taproot Theatre, 204 N 85th St

Dates: Monday-Friday, February 18-22 | Time: 10 am-4 pm
Performance: Friday, Feb 22 @ 3 pm

Cost: $275 | 1 week


Classes for Adults

Professional Audition Master Class
Designed specifically to prepare you for the Theatre Puget Sound (TPS) general auditions, this class will help equip you to audition with confidence. Taproot’s Associate Artistic Director Karen Lund teaches this limited-run class for the actor who wants to get work. Over the three weeks you’ll receive personalized monologue coaching, headshot and résumé review, as well as receive her insight into how best to present yourself as an actor. This class sells out every year, so register early! Prior approval required to enroll—email headshot and resume to to get the process started.

Karen Lund is the Associate Artistic Director at Taproot Theatre Company.  She has performed and directed at theatres across the country including the Illinois Repertory Theatre, Empty Space Theatre, Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park and the Kentucky and Idaho Shakespeare Festivals. She has won Seattle Times Footlight, Gypsy Rose Lee, and Broadway World Awards for direction. A former talent agent, Karen co-founded the SAG and AFTRA franchised Dramatic Artists Agency where she represented Jim Caviezel, (“The Passion of the Christ”) Reiko Aylesworth, (“24”) and Joel McHale (“Talk Soup” and “Community”) among others.

Actor’s Workout
The perfect introduction or reintroduction to the craft of acting, this class provides a much needed foundation for those wishing to explore theatre. This class is like aerobics for the actor’s voice, mind and body. Combining a weekly regime of acting exercises with scripted and unscripted work, you will take risks and develop focus while creating an ensemble with your classmates. No prior experience required. Taught by Mainstage actor, Rob Martin.

This class has no final performance.

Rob Martin has been a professional Teaching Artist in Seattle for almost ten years, teaching Improv and Theatre to students of all ages.  He has a B.A. in Theatre from Whitworth University, has completed the Seattle Children’s Theatre Education Internship and Teaching Apprenticeship programs, and is currently on faculty at the Seattle Children’s Theatre Drama School.  He has appeared in a number of Taproot’s mainstage productions and was last seen in The Beams are Creaking.  Rob is a long time member of Taproot’s Improv Comedy team and enjoys approaching acting with a huge sense of play!
