Payment: There is a $25 registration deposit to hold the student’s place in class. If you would like to make arrangements for a further payment plan, email the Acting Studio at studio@taproottheatre.org.

Refund Policy:

• If Taproot Theatre’s Acting Studio cancels a class, a full refund will be issued.
• If a student withdraws before the first day of class, a refund will be issued minus a $25 registration fee.
• If a student attends the first day of class but withdraws before the start of the second day, a refund will be issued minus the cost of one session plus a $25 registration fee.
• After the start of the second class there are no refunds.

Discounts: Discounts are given to multiple family members and to students taking more than one class. There is a 5% discount when you register for two classes, and a 10% discount if you register for three or more classes. This discount is only valid when you register for all classes at the same time.

Attendance & Expectations: Because of the collaborative nature of theatre, your student needs to be at camp every day. Please have your student bring a sack lunch, snack and water each day, as well as a notebook and pencil with eraser. In order to best serve your student, please inform us of any and all medical, emotional, behavioral [i.e. Allergies, ADHD, etc.]) concerns that may affect your student’s participation in class. You may do this via email or when you sign up for the class. We strive to create the best atmosphere for all students and need sufficient time to develop strategies for serving your child’s needs. We reserve the right to remove children from the classroom who are continually disruptive or unable to participate fully in the class activities.

Class Cancellations: If enrollment is insufficient we reserve the right to cancel class. In this case, all tuition paid would be returned in full, including the $25 registration fee.

Media Release: As an adult participant of Taproot’s Acting Studio program Taproot Theatre reserves the right to use the participant’s photograph, likeness, video, or voice recording, for broadcast or publication in any and all media. Participant releases any claims of copyright, libel, slander, violation of privacy, or similar rights. For Pre-K through 12th grade programs, please see registration form for media release.

Tuition Policy

Taproot Theatre is happy to provide discounts to schools and families who demonstrate financial need. Financial assistance is available to both students and schools who wish to participate in Taproot Theatre’s Acting Studio and Educational Touring.

Taproot believes all students should have access to the arts and art education. To encourage a meaningful experience for education participants

Taproot requires all students and schools to make a financial contribution at the level they are able. When possible, Taproot will discount the cost of tuition or the touring fee to meet the remaining need.

Requests for Funding:

Please send an email to studio@taproottheatre.org with the following information:

• How the educational program will benefit your theatre/educational pursuits.
• The financial contribution you are able to make towards the cost of the programming. Please note, for Taproot’s Acting Studio, we generally ask that parents make a minimum contribution of $50.00 for classes priced under $300.00 and a minimum contribution of $100.00 for classes priced over $300.00.
• Your name, phone number and email address.

If you would like to support Taproot’s Education and Outreach Department and our commitment to providing cost-effective arts education, please donate to Taproot Theatre’s general fund.

Inclement Weather Policy

In the event of inclement weather, Taproot’s Acting Studio will follow the recommendation of Seattle Public Schools in determining if a class or camp should be canceled.  If Seattle Public Schools remains open for the day, class or camp will be held as scheduled.

In the event that Seattle Public Schools is on break while classes/camps are being held, Taproot will follow the recommendation of the city’s universities (i.e. University of Washington, Seattle Pacific University). For classes/camps offered on a federal holiday, Taproot will follow WSDOT reports of road conditions to assess whether a class or camp should be canceled. For day camps occurring from 10:00 AM–4:00 PM or 10:00 AM–2:00 PM, camp cancellation information will be posted no later than 8:30 AM on Taproot’s website. For evening classes, class cancellation information will be posted no later than 3:00 PM on Taproot’s website.

In the event that a day of camp must be canceled due to inclement weather, a pro-rated amount will be refunded for the missed day. No refund will be given if the student is unable to attend a day of camp despite camp being held. In the event that inclement weather causes a cancellation on a performance date of a camp/class, every effort will be made to reschedule the performance opportunity for a later day.

Health and Safety Policies and Procedures

This policy will be regularly reviewed and updated as conditions change in accordance with Taproot Theatre’s Jewell Mainstage, Seattle Public Schools, King County, WA DOH, and CDC guidelines. As of May 1, 2023 and subject to change, Taproot’s Acting Studio no longer requires proof of COVID-19 vaccination or regular negative COVID tests during the week for students enrolled in our in-person programs.

Acting Studio Performance Procedures

• At this time, we will have no guest limits for students. Depending on class size and seat availability, this may change and will be announced prior to camp starting.
• We will not be requiring masks, proof of vaccination, or negative COVID-19 tests for audience members. This is subject to change based on city and county recommendations. Taproot’s Acting Studio supports anyone who chooses to wear a mask in our space.

Mask Policies

Masking will be optional for students. Taproot’s Acting Studio welcomes and encourages students to continue wearing a well-fitted mask if that is their preference. Taproot will have masks available. Masking policies are subject to change based on the following:

• If one or more individuals test positive for COVID-19, all students in that camp/class must wear well-fitting masks inside the building (when not actively eating or drinking) for the next ten days following exposure.
• If three or more individuals test positive for COVID-19 within three consecutive days, all students, regardless of camp/class, will be required to wear well-fitting masks inside the building (when not actively eating or drinking) for the next ten days following the most recent exposure.

Other things Taproot is doing to keep students and families safe

• All Taproot staff and teaching artists will be required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
• Students will be asked to wash and sanitize their hands frequently.
• Enhanced air quality measures have been implemented.

Positive Covid-19 exposure and testing

If a student develops symptoms of COVID-19 at camp:
If an individual presents COVID-19 symptoms during camp as outlined by the CDC, that individual will immediately isolate with a Taproot staff member in a designated area. The student must be picked up by an approved guardian and may not return to camp for the 2 remainder of the day. For subsequent camp days, the student may return if they display no symptoms, receive a negative COVID test, and complete a health screening assessment.

If a student receives a positive COVID-19 test result:

• A parent/guardian should notify the Acting Studio immediately. Acting Studio staff will notify any individuals who came into close contact with the student. Taproot will keep all personal information anonymous.
• The student should stay home and isolate for a minimum of five days from the date of the positive test result or five days from symptom onset. If the student develops symptoms after testing positive, the five-day isolation period should start over. Day 0 is the first day of symptoms. Please follow universal masking, physical distancing, and hand hygiene while in isolation. Family and roommates who are unable to distance from the student should wear a mask and wear eye protection to minimize any additional exposure risk.
• The student may return to Taproot on or after day six from the onset of symptoms IF:
  • The student has isolated for a minimum of five days from symptom onset or positive test, whichever is earlier, AND
  • Symptoms have significantly resolved (click here for a complete list of symptoms), AND
  • The student has been fever-free for at least 24 hours without taking fever-reducing medications

If a student has been exposed to COVID-19:

• The student does not need to stay home unless they develop symptoms (click here for a complete list of symptoms).
• The student will be required to wear a well-fitting mask in all class locations for ten days after exposure.
• Parent/guardians should monitor symptoms for at least five days. Even if the student does not develop symptoms, it is recommended to get tested five days after exposure. If exposure and isolation happen prior to the start of camp, Taproot will offer an exchange into a different in-person session.

How to Submit a COVID-19 Home or Over-the-Counter Test Result

Taproot Theatre’s Acting Studio accepts over-the-counter (OTC) COVID-19 tests for students taking Acting Studio programs. A photo of the negative test result may be emailed to the Acting Studio office at studio@taproottheatre.org or the photo can be shown at check-in by a parent or guardian. Please do not bring physical test cards to the building.

On the test card, write (or provide in an email) the following information (example below):

• The first and last name of the person tested
• The test date (test should be taken prior to coming to building)

Test result lines must be clearly visible in the photograph. If the lines are not visible the test results will not be accepted.
