Margaret Chase Smith stood alone on the Senate floor, summoning the courage to speak the truth. As McCarthyism gripped the nation, she issued her Declaration of Conscience—defying fear, rejecting silence, and holding her party publicly accountable. Though her stand came at a personal cost, her voice changed history forever. This powerful and quietly electrifying story still resonates today. 

September 16–October 17, 2026 

Run time: Approximately two hours including one 15-minute intermission.
Age recommendation: 14+ (children under 5 are not admitted, including babes in arms)
Content Advisory: This play contains strong language, including antisemitic remarks and homophobic slurs used by McCarthy. Multiple scenes also include references to and dramatizations of sexual harassment.

After five years away from the gospel circuit, they’re back—and each member has a story to tell. Between bluegrass harmonies and heart-warming hymns, their stories hilariously and surprisingly spill out. This long-awaited toe-tappin’ and hand clappin’ production returns to Taproot for its 50th Anniversary with beloved artists and unforgettable comedy.
