Spring Improv Basics with Joe Guppy
Ages 18+

Over the course of 7 weeks, explore the creativity, spontaneity, and fun of a basic improv class with veteran improvisor and teacher Joe Guppy. Gain self-confidence on your feet as you sharpen listening and communication skills in a supportive, community atmosphere. Learn the skill of “Yes, And!” through cooperative, spontaneous, and imaginative scene and story creation. The curriculum includes collaborative improv games like “Magic Box” “Sound Ball,” and “Mutant One-Word-at-a Time-Letter.” Each class begins with a round of high-energy warm-up games and moves into story-telling and basic scene work.

Joe Guppy is an improvisor, writer, performer, teacher, and creativity coach. He’s a co-founder and cast member of the improv show “Theatresports” at the Market Theatre and co-founded Off the Wall Players, one of Seattle’s first comedy/ improv troupes. Joe was a writer and cast member on KING-TV’s “Almost Live,” where he won eight regional Emmy awards. His memoir, “My Fluorescent God” was named a “Best Book of 2015” by Kirkus Reviews and was an Elliot Bay Book Company bestseller. He has taught improv and writing classes for Cornish College of the Arts, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, and Unexpected Productions at the Market Theatre.
