Dear Friends,

Welcome to Taproot Theatre’s 50th Anniversary Season!

This year marks a golden milestone—50 years of stories told with heart, courage, laughter, and hope. As we celebrate this legacy, we’re also dreaming forward. Because while we honor where we’ve been, we’re even more excited about where we’re going.

This season was built with you in mind. It reflects what you’ve come to love about Taproot: classic comedies that charm and delight, bold new works that spark conversation, and inventive musicals reimagined for our intimate stage. From world premieres and regional debuts to the timeless voices of C.S. Lewis, Fats Waller, Neil Simon, and the iconic duo of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice—this season has it all.

It’s a yearlong celebration of the artists, audiences, and stories that have shaped Taproot—and a bold leap into what’s next. We invite you to laugh with us, reflect with us, celebrate with us, and—above all—hope with us.

We’re so glad you’re here!

A world premiere retelling of the myth of Cupid and Psyche

When Psyche is sacrificed to appease the gods, her sister Orual—the future warrior queen—ventures to give her a proper burial. But Psyche is not dead, and she believes she’s living a life Orual cannot see. What follows is a powerful, mythic journey through love, beauty, faith, doubt, and the bonds of sisterhood.

March 18–April 18, 2026

The Fats Waller Musical Show

The club is alive, the band is swingin’, and the music of a jazz legend brings the house down. This dazzling celebration of Fats Waller springs to life with joy, rhythm, and soul. Remembering his generation-defining songs and lasting impact on today’s music, this exuberant Tony Award winning tribute to Black artistry sings, laughs, hopes, and lives out loud.

May 13–June 13, 2026

By Neil Simon

They’ve just said, “I do,” but can their love handle five flights of stairs and a tiny New York apartment? A buttoned-up young lawyer and his free-spirited bride stumble into married life, eccentric neighbors, leaky ceilings, and romantic chaos. Full of wit, chemistry, and charm, this classic rom-com bubbles over with laughter and warmth. Love is messy—and that’s what makes it fun.

July 8–August 8, 2026

Lyrics by Tim Rice
Music by Andrew Lloyd Webber

Joseph is a dreamer. Betrayed and enslaved, he rises again with faith, forgiveness, and a dazzlingly colorful coat. This beloved family-friendly tale bursts with pop, gospel, calypso, and rock. Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s musical comedy classic invites all generations to experience a vibrant, heartfelt celebration of hope.

September 16–October 17, 2026

By Joe DiPietro

A regional premiere based on a true story that shaped history

Margaret Chase Smith stood alone on the Senate floor, summoning the courage to speak the truth. As McCarthyism gripped the nation, she issued her Declaration of Conscience—defying fear, rejecting silence, and holding her party publicly accountable. Though her stand came at a personal cost, her voice changed history forever. This powerful and quietly electrifying story still resonates today.
